Floor notes from the desk
Humidity on the Highveld and coastal mornings treat MDF differently. We note storage side for every sheet that leaves the yard so the next job matches the sample that was signed off, not the board that sat in a bakkie. Bring the real material when you can. PDF grain never behaves like the plank on the bed.
Service visits go better when the alarm log is exported the night before. Screenshot the homing routine and the last tool table. Our techs would rather arrive with the right collet nuts than discover a missing spare after the drive from Sunnyrock. Leave clear floor space around the enclosure; cable trips still cause more downtime than exotic spindle faults.
Shop floors teach faster than brochures. We ask for the sheet size, the tightest internal radius, and whether the dust extraction already wheezes on wet days. Those three answers decide spindle choice more honestly than a glossy catalogue page. Keep a marked sample of the last successful cut taped near the controller so night shift does not invent a new feed rate from memory.
Tool changes that look tidy on paper still fail when the collet faces are glazed. Wipe, inspect, then load. A two-minute habit beats a ruined blank and a late delivery apology. If your nest leaves skinny webs on softwood, speak up before we lock the toolpath. It is cheaper to widen a tab than to glue a broken letter back together under a client deadline.
